Really enjoyed that, Juliet!!!
Thanks! I am going to submit it to Huffington, the comedy section is a LOT harder to get featured on, so I have no idea how well it will do, or if they will go with it.
Congrats on getting published on Huff post comedy. This piece is really good.
May I state my opinion regarding pregnancy as a result from rape. In those cases the woman should have the right to terminate the pregnancy, but abortion is not without problems for the woman either. Every woman I know who has had an abortion, (I had no part in the pregnancy just to make that clear) suffers psychologically from it.
I feel that women who have been traumatized should have other options then to go through another trauma. What I’m saying is that giving birth could be less of a burden than having the abortion. However In the case of rape the woman should have her choice. I think that abortion should always be the last option not a first choice whenever an unwanted pregnancy occurs. I also think that abortion law should be very carefully written to prevent misuse in either direction.
I haven’t found that to be the case in all women, in fact some act as if it was nothing…they are almost too casual about it. I definitely don’t think all women are traumatized by it…at least not from what I have seen. Some women were not meant to have kids…trust me…they don’t want a child and they probably shouldn’t have a child…I do think though that in some cases those women would have made terrible mothers at that time in their lives, if they didn’t give their babies up.
I think it is personal decision between a woman and her doctor and it is no right for anyone else to budge in. I mean the pregnancy is part of a woman’s body until the baby is to term. I am all for birth control! And what makes the current batch of Republicans is that they are going after that now…which of course will only lead to more abortions and if they make that illegal…back alley abortions. It is some scary stuff.
To me birth control is an essential part of organized society so I’m all for it. I also understand that to criminalize abortion carries enormous risks. Illegal abortions clinics would spring up controlled by criminal networks and in its wake all manner of abuse and oppression would, with 100% probability fester. At the same time I believe that the laws of a nation needs to reflect the respect for the individual and the individuals right to life, liberty and pursuit of whatever floats or boat, as long as it does not inflict on others right to the just mentioned.
My beliefs may differ from yours in the case of when life starts. My view is that the woman’s body is a host to another life. This is why pregnancy needs to be planned, but sometimes it happens anyway, the way our legislation is today, that is the time when the mother has a free will choice to let live or not. I am against abortion as a casual means of birth control.
I Think that the causal approach to life in society, is a problem that spans much further out than just unwanted pregnancies. I think that consciousness, will build a society that is hard and unforgiving to the majority of the population.
Yeah well you don’t have jurisdiction over someone else’s body…that is just how I see it. Women have performed abortions since the beginning of time and will continue to do so…so it is either legal and safe or illegal and dangerous. Some women also dump babies in dumpsters, it is a real thing that happens.
I can’t see it from the pure pro-life side anymore, I was raised in that environment but as I have grown to be an adult I have seen so many things that have made me completely change my mind. I knew a woman who gave birth to a dead baby, all the way to 9 months…so for me it is not a life until it is breathing on its own outside the womb. So many things can go wrong and it is not for some total stranger or the government to tell a woman what to do with her body. Ectopic pregnancies are another thing, no saving the pregnancy and they can kill the mother. I have had friends who were raped, abused by the man that impregnated them, stalked and harassed by an adult that was much older and knocked them up when there just a teenager. I have had friends with severe drug problems find out they were pregnant and women who learned their babies had severe birth defects. And 4 out 10 women who have an abortion do so because they have other children to take care of, and can’t afford another one. These questions are not easy to decide and certainly not for people who aren’t even involved in the situation to decide. We have over 7 bilion people on a planet that is stretched to its limits in water, energy, and farmland…worrying about every pregnancy is wasted energy.
